Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor is scheduled to visit the Homer Center School District today to bring attention to STEM education and the future opportunities offered by science, technology, engineering, and math.
Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack is tentatively scheduled to arrive this afternoon and will address the entire school via TV from the media room. He’ll then visit several selected classrooms and wrap up his visit with a news conference, departing after the students leave for the day.
Stack will focus especially on opportunities for females in STEM-related fields. He’s a member of the board of the Million Women Mentor Organization.
Homer Center was chosen for the visit particularly for its membership in Project Lead The Way, a study path that uses activity, project, and problem-based instruction to help students apply their classroom work to everyday life. Stack was a State Senator who worked with Senator Don White, and White and his Chief of Staff, Joe Pittman recommended Homer Center based on Project Lead The Way.
