It was a complete sweep for the IUP basketball teams last night, with wins over Mercyhurst, before more than 1600 fans at the KCAC.
Brittany Robinson’s basket with 2.5 seconds gave IUP a hard fought 73-71 win, after the Lakers had tied the game with a three-pointer with eight seconds left.
Carolyn Appleby led the way with 17 points, followed by Robinson’s 16. Freshman Maura D’Anna provided 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The win keeps the Crimson Hawks solidly in third place in the West Division with a 13-3 record.
The men overcame 25 turnovers with a 16-0 run for a 67-56 win, their 11th straight. Red-shirt senior Devon Cottrell paved the way with 15 points and tied a team record with seven blocked shots. The Crimson Hawks shot 53 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and out-rebounded the Lakers, 34-18.
The win marks nine straight seasons of 20 or more wins in a season.
Both teams host Slippery Rock Saturday night on Alumni and Indiana County Chamber of Commerce Night.
