James W. Ferguson, 80, of Kent, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at his home.
The son of the late William Eugene and Ida Gertrude Campbell Ferguson, he was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Conemaugh Township, Indiana County.
Mr. Ferguson lived most of his life in Kent and graduated from Blairsville High School. He worked at Season All, Hills Department Store, Gorell’s and Advanced Auto. James was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of the Indiana First Church of God. James loved coaching youth baseball at Young Township. He was an avid sports fan; Pirates, Steelers and Pitt basketball. James enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.
James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Louise Smith Ferguson; three children: James Ferguson, Gerald Ferguson and Noreine Filipkowski and husband Chris; eight grandchildren: Justin, Kaley, Joe, Kelsey, Emily, James, CJ and Anna; three great grandchildren: Killian, Hiland, June; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings: Milton Ferguson and Gertrude Ferguson; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Ferguson.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Westrick officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
