The Homer-Center Wildcats Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball Teams split a doubleheader at Ligonier Saturday night with the Lady Wildcats downing the Lady Rams 64-42 in the first game, and the Rams boys coming from behind to drop the Homer-Center Boys 67-60.
In the girls game, Homer-Center jumped out to a 17-4 first quarter lead and never looked back leading 34-16 at the half, and 50-25 after three quarters on their way to a 22 point victory. Alexis Leysock finished with 13, Maggie Arone 12 for the winning Wildcats who improved to 13-2, 9-2 in the Heritage Conference.
In the boys game, Homer-Center had a 10 point second half lead, but allowed two 12 point Ligonier Valley runs and never recovered falling 67-60. Marrel Paola led the winning Rams with 17 points. and freshman Michael Marinchak added 15. Tanner Yancy paced Homer-Center with a game high 23 points, Corey Cavalier added 12, all in the first half. With the victory, Ligonier Valley all but wrapped up second place in the Heritage Conference South Division and a berth in the upcoming league playoffs ending any hope for Homer-Center. The Wildcats, now 9-8, should still qualify for the District 6-AA Playoffs in February.
