It was a sad weekend for Vintondale residents, with two people losing their lives, one in a motorcycle accident and the other in a house fire.
71-year-old Barry Ray Smith was killed Friday night when he inadvertently steered his motorcycle into a closed southbound lane on Interstate 99 near the 17th Street exit. The cycle went out of control on the newly-paved roadway and veered into some grass, where it crashed. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
87-year-old Rose Mazey passed away early Saturday morning in a house fire. Her body was located in the first-floor living room of her home along Plank Road. A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, which is not believed to be suspicious.
