A home in South Bend Township in Armstrong County was destroyed by a fire last night.
Nine fire departments from Armstrong and Indiana counties were on the scene for the blaze at a one-story home with attached garage on South Long Run Road that was reported around 7:00 last night. Elderton fire officials said that flames were seen coming from the eaves of the roof as they arrived. The home is considered a total loss, and Elderton fire officials say that it was a flue fire that got out of control.
Along with battling the severe cold conditions, crews also had to call in tanker trucks to provide water for the fire as it was in a rural area. One firefighter was taken to a nearby hospital for observation during the incident. No other injuries were reported.
Iselin-West Lebanon, Coal Run-McIntyre, Saltsburg, Tunnelton, and Creekside fire departments joined Elderton and other crews from Armstrong County on-scene. Plumville was called in to standby for Creekside. Citizen’s Ambulance and Murrysville Medic One were also on-scene to provide assistance.
