It is a big day for the State System of Higher Education, with a lunchtime formal inauguration ceremony for new Chancellor Dan Greenstein, followed by Greenstein’s first “State of the System” address in advance of the Board of Governors meeting.
Greenstein is the State System’s fifth chancellor. He wrote last month that he is looking forward to laying out his vision for the collective future of the fourteen state-owned universities. He said he will draw on information gathered from his tour of all fourteen schools last fall, hundreds of emails he’s received, and dozens of meetings with students, faculty, university leaders, and others.
The Board of Governors meeting agenda includes the latest information on the System Redesign, including an extensive review of Phase Two recommendations. The governors will also consider revisions to the process for hiring new university presidents. There is only one construction project on the agenda, for upgrades to the student union building at Bloomsburg.
