The state Department of Labor & Industry says November unemployment in Indiana County fell by three-tenths of a percentage point from the October rate, to 4.8 percent. That puts Indiana County into a three-way tie with Lycoming and McKean counties for 47th among the state’s 67 counties. It’s also eight-tenths of a point lower than in November of 2017.
The jobless rate in Indiana County compares to a state rate of 4.2 percent, with Centre County leading the way at 3.1 percent and Forest County trailing the pack at 6.0 percent.
Among our neighbors, the lowest unemployment rates are in Jefferson and Westmoreland counties, both at 4.4 percent. Armstrong is at 4.6 percent, Clearfield at 5.0, and Cambria County’s unemployment is 5.1 percent.
Nationally, the unemployment rate is 3.7 percent.
