A massive search for two teenage runaways in Pine Township was called off shortly after six o’clock last night due to weather conditions and darkness, but the two were later located and returned to their homes.
The first call came at 12:17 PM. A 13-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy had run away together. Cherry Tree Police and state police responded, along with Game Commission officers, and firefighters from Pine Township, Cherryhill Township, Gree Township, Clymer, Cherry Tree and Marion Center. They were joined later by search crews from the Spangler, Nicktown, and Nanty Glo fire departments, as well as a Search & Rescue K9 teams from Madera, Clearfield County.
Cherry Tree Police Chief John Blake says cellphone tracking helped narrow the search grid to a wooded area outside of Heilwood, but searchers on ATVs and on foot were unable to locate the teens.
Blake says the girl returned to her home at 7:37 PM and the boy was taken into custody at 8:18 PM in Heilwood and released into the custody of his legal guardian. There will be no criminal charges.
