From the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture today notified consumers who purchased unpasteurized cow’s milk from Lone Oak Farm to immediately discard it, as routine sampling indicated that the product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
The product is sold in glass, half-gallon containers from Lone Oak Farm, located at 1606 Georgeville Road, Marion Center. It is also sold at The Hatchery, 400 North Walnut Street, Punxsutawney; and the Route 36 and Main Street parking lot in Brookville, PA. Affected containers have a sell-by dates between December 17 and December 24, 2018.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause Listeriosis, an illness with symptoms including fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. Listeriosis mainly affects pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and adults with impaired immune systems. Listeriosis can result in miscarriage, premature delivery, serious infection of the newborn, or stillbirth, if a pregnant woman were to become infected. No reported illnesses have been attributed to the product, but people who consumed the milk should consult their physicians if they become ill.
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture encourages, protects and promotes agriculture and related industries throughout the commonwealth, while providing consumer protection through inspection services that impact the health and financial security of Pennsylvania’s citizens.
